Standard Motor Products Expands Crankcase Ventilation Program

Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) has expanded its Positive Crankcase Ventilation Program, enhancing its offerings in the automotive aftermarket supply chain. The Standard crankcase ventilation lineup includes crankcase breather hoses, crankcase filters, PCV valves, engine oil separators and PCV grommets. These components are integral to Standard’s emission control program, which also encompasses evaporative emissions and exhaust gas recirculation components.

Distribution Strategy

SMP’s crankcase ventilation program features a comprehensive line of engine oil separators, a category experiencing growth in the aftermarket. Direct-injection and turbocharged engines across gasoline and diesel vehicles increasingly use engine oil separators. The availability of these components for a wide range of import and domestic vehicles supports SMP’s strategy of providing direct OE replacements that ensure ease of installation for technicians, the company said. Vehicle manufacturers have set recommended service intervals for these components, highlighting the importance of availability in the aftermarket distribution network.

Product Development

Standard’s crankcase ventilation components undergo rigorous testing to ensure durability and performance matching original equipment specifications. The testing regimen includes lifecycle validation, thermal cycling, thermal shock and vibration testing. Additionally, technicians at SMP’s Testing Center in Texas field-test these components on vehicles.
