Watch some of the automotive aftermarket industry’s brightest young minds disassemble and reassemble Holden V6 engines using hand tools — and try to beat the clock! For the first time ever, eight teams of students from technical schools around the country will work to complete the challenge in record time, delivering non-stop thrills along the way.
When and Where
Quarterfinals:
Tuesday, Nov. 5, 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 6, 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.
Semifinals:
Tuesday, Nov. 5, 3 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 6, 3 p.m.
Finals:
Thursday, Nov. 7, 11 a.m.
All rounds take place at Joe’s Garage, booth J7832
Competition Details
Dismantling:
- Remove rocker covers
- Rocker assemblies
- Pushrods
- Inlet manifold
- Water pump
- Heads
- Sump Piston
- Pistons
Note: Crankshaft not removed
Assembly:
- Components reassembled
- Big ends and head bolts tensioned to 20Nm
- When completed, engine must rotate 360deg
Please note:
- The rings have been removed
- The crank bolts will be tightened so the engines can be turned easily
- Tools: speed brace, ratchet, 4-5 sockets only, tool to tap the pistons out
