In episode 9 of the “Road to AAPEX,” we go on a journey through the past, present and future of the manufacturing of exhaust systems. We begin with an overview of catalytic converters, highlighting their evolution since the 1970 Clean Air Act, which mandated significant emission reductions. Clint Cooper from AP Emissions details the engineering behind its exhaust components, which are crafted in American facilities using state-of-the-art technology. As Clint demonstrates the installation of a complete exhaust system for a 2010 Honda CRV, we gain insight into the meticulous processes involved from material selection to advanced bending techniques.

Episode 10

This episode of the Road to AAPEX takes us to Grand Rapids, Mich., for a trip to Auto-Wares, where host Joe Keene learns about the company’s history, operations and distribution of auto parts. Auto-Wares works closely with manufacturers like BCA bearings, a division of NTN, to ensure high-quality OEM replacement parts are delivered to where they’re needed most. That leads us to our next stop – NTN’s Mt. Prospect, Ill., location. There, we take a close look at the company’s focus on manufacturing high-quality products. NTN also discusses the importance of AAPEX as a platform to showcase new products and to connect with customer. Then it’s back to Michigan, and Tamrox Automotive in Jackson, Mich., for an NTN wheel bearing replacement. Watch the video for a demonstration of the process and for insights on customer service and technician retention.

Episode 11

Six Hundred Thousand. That’s how many technicians are needed to fill the void in the automotive repair industry. Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper are looking to do something about it. Since 2018, the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance has celebrated technicians across the U.S. and Canada by naming the Technician of the Year.

The 2024 event is a must-see stop on the Road to AAPEX. Sixteen of North America’s top technicians came to Southfield, Michigan to compete for Technician of the Year honors. They first have to tackle a written exam before moving on to the quick strut and electrical tests.

Once the stress of the tests is over, it’s time to have some fun. The techs head to the M1 Concourse to ride along with professional race car drivers. Then it’s time to name the winners, presented by Alliance President JC Washbish.

Watch the video to see this year’s winners and how distribution leaders are supporting current and future technicians.
