Continental is transitioning its ContiTech division’s PVC-based products to INEOS Inovyn’s CO2-optimized NEOVYNTM PVC. The new PVC has a 37 percent lower carbon footprint than the European industry average for conventional PVC. This shift reflects Continental’s broader focus on sustainability and supply chain efficiency.
PVC Adoption Supports Sustainable Product Goals
The new PVC formulation will be used in many products, including surface material for automotive seats, conveyor belts for mining, and fasteners and seals for chemical and construction industries. The move signals Continental’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. The shift also aligns with customer demand for more sustainable products, the company said.

Supply Chain Certification Strengthens Sustainability Claims
INEOS Inovyn’s efforts to reduce PVC’s carbon footprint include using renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind energy and solar power. The company also uses low carbon hydrogen. Additionally, the supply chain is certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS standard. The certification ensures traceability of renewable and recycled materials.
Continental Expands Work on Renewable and Recycled Materials
Beyond PVC, Continental aims to increase the use of renewable and recycled materials in its rubber compounds. The company said it also plans to enhance rubber recycling solutions. Continental has already achieved ISCC PLUS certification for some industrial sites, and it plans to expand certification efforts to additional locations.
