  • Brake Parts Inc (BPI) has recently invested in new manufacturing and testing equipment for its BPI-Laixi plant in Laixi, China in order to expand brake testing capabilities and increase production capacity.

BPI-Laixi is one of four BPI-owned friction plants strategically located around the globe. The plant currently manufactures nearly six million sets of brake pads annually and has added a new LINK 3000 dynamometer to conduct enhanced performance, noise and durability testing on friction material.

In order to meet growing customer demand, BPI has added the latest generation of positive molding equipment to the IATF (ISO) 16949:2016 certified plant. This addition will allow BPILaixi to increase its production capacity by one million sets of brake pads annually. The company also has plans to add more positive molding equipment in the first quarter of 2018 to increase capacity by another two million sets per year.

“At BPI, we are continually evaluating and upgrading our manufacturing facilities in order to fulfill the growing demand for quality brake components, including friction, rotors and calipers,” said H.T. Chang, vice president of product development, engineering, R&D and quality, Brake Parts Inc. “By making the commitment to continuously invest in our facilities, we are able to seamlessly integrate the development, testing, validation and manufacturing of new numbers and innovative products into our comprehensive brake parts offering.”

  • Raybestos® has recently added over 100 new part numbers to its line of premium quality Opti-Cal™ brake calipers, increasing coverage of popular domestic and import nameplate applications to give customers more of what they need to grow their brake businesses.

“Since its introduction earlier this year, the line of Raybestos Opti-Cal brake calipers has been so successful that we’re proud to expand coverage so quickly by adding more than 100 new part numbers now with ongoing part number introductions planned,” said Kristin Grons, marketing manager, Brake Parts Inc. “Customers have responded very positively to the Opti-Cal line; they especially like two key features, superior quality and no core to return, so they don’t have to deal with old cores taking up valuable shelf space.” Unlike traditional calipers, the Opti-Cal caliper line features all new components, combining optimal performance with time-saving, trouble-free installation.

Unlike other calipers on the market today, Opti-Cal calipers are manufactured to renowned Raybestos engineering specifications. They are composed of a new caliper body, bracket, and components, including pistons, lubricated guide pins, and pad mounting hardware to ensure they fit and function correctly. Aluminum or zinc plated housings and zinc plated brackets deliver superior corrosion prevention. The zinc finish provides allweather protection, inhibits rust, and maintains a pristine appearance.

With coverage for nearly 2,000 vehicle applications, all Opti-Cal calipers undergo significant levels of testing to ensure adherence to global industry standards such as SAE J1603, JASO C448, QC/T 592- 2013 and ASTM B117. The calipers undergo temperature durability testing, leak-free pressure testing, functionality testing and environment exposure testing to guarantee trouble-free operation, proper braking function and the best possible performance.

  • Brake Parts Inc (BPI) announces its BPI-Haimeng brake components manufacturing facility in Longkou, Shandong, China, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in style with a special ceremony for employees entitled, “Create a Great Cause with Ambition, Share the Same Destiny for a Brilliant Future.”

“Our 20th anniversary ceremony was not only a chance to celebrate the success that we’ve achieved at the BPI-Haimeng facility over the past two decades, but also an opportunity to inspire everyone to strive for even greater accomplishments going forward,” said David Overbeeke, president and CEO of Brake Parts Inc. “We are very proud of the fact that our BPIHaimeng facility produces millions of rotors and drums each year and continues to maintain an exceptionally low warranty rate. We are steadily increasing the production of coated rotors to meet the market demand which is growing by double-digits.”

The BPI-Haimeng plant is one of 10 strategically located facilities operated by BPI to supply customers around the globe with world-class brake system components. The company has recently invested more than $20 million into the TS 19649 and ISO 140001 certified plant to meet growing rotor and drum demand, adding new foundry capacity, CNC machine upgrades and additional automated coating and paint lines.

  • After the restoration of a dynamic ’71 Camaro and an iconic ’69 Mustang, Raybestos® is going even further back in time to rebuild a 1953 Chevrolet® pickup truck. Partnering for the third time with world-renowned builder Schwartz Performance, Raybestos and the Schwartz team will restore this timeless classic to its former glory.

“The Chevrolet Advanced-Design series was one of the first pickup lines manufactured after World War II and is considered to be one of the most recognized truck designs in history,” said Jeff Schwartz, founder and president of Schwartz Performance. “We were fortunate to find a nice rust free example right in our backyard. Once we're done with the transformation, it will handle like a modern sports car and ride and perform better than any new truck."

As part of the restoration project, Schwartz Performance will partner with some of the industry’s leading suppliers who will provide top quality parts and equipment for the build. In addition, Schwartz Performance will install its famous bolt-in “G-Machine” chassis system as well as an off-the-shelf performance disc brake upgrade package, using Raybestos components and Raybestos Truck & Medium Duty specialty disc brake pads.
