European vehicles are equipped with a variety of EVAP system designs and include some of the more difficult to understand components. Depending on the year, make and model of vehicle, BMW might use an electrically operated pressure pump, a vacuum controlled leak detection pump or a natural vacuum leak detection device.

Diesel Day: 6.7L Power Stroke Diagnostics

Codenamed the Scorpion during its development stage, the 6.7L Power Stroke is Ford’s in-house built diesel engine for the Super Duty line-up – the first not manufactured by International/Navistar. This unique design was engineered and produced to stay competitive in a rapidly growing Diesel market.

Ford’s new Power Stroke features a lot of industry firsts like a twin-inducer turbocharger, reverse-flow cylinder heads and an air-to-water intercooler to only name a few as well as four rocker arms and pushrods per cylinder.

This course covers the dynamic airflow into the complex air delivery system, the twin-inducer turbocharging system, the primary and secondary cooling systems and a plethora of selective catalyst enhancements. The instructor will go over the service opportunities surrounding these systems, common Trouble Shooting Bulletins and hands-on testing with the Ford IDS.

AVI names keynote speaker Giuliano Zuccato, to speak at the AVI Conference along-side AAPEX on October 31, 2016 in Las Vegas, NV.

Giuliano Zuccato was one of six clay design modelers who crafted the original 1964 Mustang.

The 2016 AVI Conference will feature Zuccato as a keynote speaker during lunch time Monday October 31, starting at 12:00 pm, where he will speak more about the opportunities he has had throughout his life and his experience in the automotive design world.

“What I want to do is inspire, inform and entertain, and this opportunity with AVI and the conference (AAPEX) is exactly what I want to do”. says Zuccato.

This year AVI is putting together the best training in the Aftermarket. The best instructors in the industry will be teaching quality technical training for this two day event alongside AAPEX.

Wide Band Air Fuel Ratio Sensors

Well over 20 years ago vehicle manufacturers began to utilize a more accurate sensor for the measurement of exhaust gas oxygen concentration. It took many years for the new Wide Band Air Fuel Ratio sensor technology to become a mainstream component and now they are failing. 

This course will provide the knowledge necessary to properly identify and diagnose fuel system issues in system using these sensors. Diagnosing AFR signals can be tricky and your instructor will show you the best way to obtain a clean usable signal trace so that comparisons with the scan data can be made. If you struggle to properly diagnose these AFR sensors you are not alone. Learn updated testing techniques that you can apply to your diagnostic testing procedures.

Hot Heads 2: Advanced Cooling System Design & Diagnostics

Cooling systems are the most overlooked system on the car. You can make significant additional income, solve problems no other shop can, and reduce those unexplainable comebacks by updating your knowledge of cooling system design and function.

Beginning in 2012, Gates Rubber conducted significant research to learn the effect of mixing coolants, changing chemistry, and long term system reliability. At the same time, manufacturers of both OE and aftermarket parts have significantly invested in redesigning systems to radically improve engine thermodynamics. Unless the repair community understands how these systems work and how to properly service them, very expensive damage will occur. This thoroughly researched content will make sure you never look at or service cooling systems the same way again.

  • Thermostat design and management changes – PCM’s are managing mechanical thermostats adding new diagnostic issues. Techniques for testing non-invasively.

Advanced Technology Vehicles, which include hybrids, continue to be the fastest growing segment of new vehicles sales. Although many components of the hybrid powertrain are covered by the federally mandated emission warranty, there are numerous opportunities for service and maintenance on hybrids.

While many of the maintenance services for hybrids appear to be simple and similar to those of a conventional vehicle, these services, if performed incorrectly, can negatively impact fuel economy or even cause catastrophic damage to expensive vehicle systems. The purpose of this course is to help increase your share of the Advanced Technology Vehicle market, without the risks involved for servicing high voltage components. Learn the correct maintenance procedures of the most common, and most problematic, hybrid vehicles on the road today. We will also cover procedures that are unique to hybrids as well as testing techniques to isolate component failures.
